Why This Reference Exists
Printed directories did not disappear so much as divide into specialized records. Allegheny County assessment and deed offices hold property evidence. Pennsylvania election rules govern voter material. Carnegie Library, Historic Pittsburgh, and state archives hold much of the earlier directory and archival trail. A family-history or address question can otherwise mean sorting through unrelated portals before reaching the correct custodian. Allegheny County Residents Directory brings together the recorded access routes, coverage limits, and office details in one starting point.
What the Directory Organizes
- Search paths: the street directory for address-keyed records, the city directory for historic volumes, and the resident lookup for careful one-person verification
- Custodians: the assessor, recorder, elections office, court divisions, vital-records offices, libraries, and archives
- Record methods: ways to move from a parcel to a deed, read a directory edition, and compare a household across time
- Access boundaries: Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law routes, judicial records procedures, confidentiality rules, and archive alternatives
What This Service Cannot Do
Allegheny County Residents Directory is a privately run reference. It is not connected with an Allegheny County department, Pennsylvania agency, court, library, or archive. The limits are important:
- We cannot confirm that a specific person currently lives in Allegheny County
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail here is current at this moment
Only the office holding a record can confirm, certify, or correct it. This reference is not a consumer reporting agency and may not be used for FCRA-regulated decisions.
